Smartphones have become an indispensable part of our lives - a vital companion if you please. But what if your smartphone could connect with you in a more personal manner? Be a companion in the true sense? Meet RoBoHon - a robot smartphone that is set to change the way we perceive mobile devices.

The brainchild of Japan-based Sharp Corporation, RoBoHon aka the robot smartphone is not just any device. The RoBoHon can dance, search, sit up, raise its arms when it wants to convey a message and walk.

The kawaii-like robot smartphone is nearly 8 inches tall and weighs 390 grams or 0.85 pounds. It has a small 2-inch QVGA display with a 320 x 240 pixel resolution. The screen is located on RoBoHon's back so that the aesthetics stay intact and one can stare into the robot's cute face. The device is powered by a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz and it supports 3G LTE and Wi-Fi.

The robot smartphone's adorable demeanor belies its tech prowess as the RoBoHon packs in a projector, a camera for face recognition, as well as an in-built voice recognition tool. One may argue that even smartphones house these features. True. But are they robots?

The RoBoHon can multi-task and be your talking alarm clock which wakes you up in time for work. The device also takes notes and makes memos on your behalf, reminding you to purchase toiletries or groceries.

Did we mention RoBoHon can also hail a taxi for you or go on trekking expeditions and soak in nature's beauty with you? That's not all, the robot smartphone's projector can help create a mini-theater experience for you. You can even send emails on your RoBoHon or assign it to be the camera person at your party and of course, you can make phone calls from the robot smartphone!

"RoBoHon is a phone you have never seen before. A phone in human shape. A phone that you feel like talking to. A phone that also wants to know you. To hear what you hear, To see what you see, To share the same dreams. That is little RoBoHon's big dream," says Sharp.

The robot smartphone is set to release in Japan in the first half of 2016. The pricing is not known at this juncture.
