A new effort by Google has received much attention over the ability to integrate apps that can access your inbox and deliver information that will help you have a larger picture of the articles your are reading. The move is part of a grand effort by the search company for its email service and is allowing World+Dog get permission to search through your email and deliver what you are looking for.

The new Gmail API should help streamline one's email experience, and has been outlined by the Chocolate Factory's Eric DeFriez in a blog posting that summarized the quality and innovation that comes with the new API.

"Designed to let you easily deliver Gmail-enabled features, this new API is a standard Google API, which gives RESTful access to a user's mailbox under OAuth 2.0 authorization. It supports CRUD operations on true Gmail datatypes such as messages, threads, labels and drafts," he wrote.

One report gives the example that "a travel app, for example, could scan your email inbox for booking confirmations and automatically compile them into an itinerary. An expense app can dig through your inbox for receipts and automatically file them to your cloud-based account."

According to Google, the new API should be a unique way to interconnect email and daily aspects, but there are a number of requests that an app can make in order to receive permission to access emails. Among those include the "request full access to the target account; request access for everything except the ability to delete messages or threads; read access, but no write or delete rights; or access only to create and send messages and their associated drafts."

The move is part of Google's continued push into new ways of integrating their services, whereby users can access their email but also have direction connection with apps and other services that can be enhanced through their email services.

But there are concerns that the permission-based apps could threaten personal data and privacy issues, where apps and those companies are getting into the details of what could be private information or personal emails. However, Google and others believe that by having a number of permission statuses, this could help to streamline the process and make going with the API a lot easier.
