The Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers will be back on the big screen in 2017 but other than that, not many other details have been released about the high school superheroes based on the early 90s series.

But today, it was announced that Naomi Scott will be donning the mask of the Pink Ranger.

The announcement was made official on the Instagram account of powerrangersmovie and thus far, it is the only post shared by the account so far.

Scott herself also confirmed the announcement on her own Instagram account, as well as a tweet to share exactly how excited she was about her new confirmed role.

Scott is most remembered for her role on the science fiction series Terra Nova, as well as her most recent feature film role in the highly acclaimed The Martian where she stars along with Matt Damon.

No word yet on when she will begin filming for the role of Kimberly, a.k.a. the Pink Ranger, or when the names of the other actors who will play the other Rangers will be revealed.

The Power Rangers is based on Japanese super hero series following a similar formula. A group of high schoolers are recruited by an alien power and given secret masked identities. Each team member was given a colored suit to distinguish them and usually, the Red Ranger is the leader of the bunch.

The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series ran for three seasons and inspired two feature films as well as a successful animated series and toy line.
