Time to change! OnePlus' upcoming event promises to announce the company's next big step. Some say the phenomenon will be an important product launch.

The popular Chinese smartphone maker is sending out invites to the press event, hosted by CEO Pete Lau and India General Manager Vikas Agarwal, to be held on Oct. 12 in Bangalore.

The cryptic invitation does not reveal much. Apart from the brief program details, the invite only says, "OnePlus invites you to join Pete Lau... as they reiterate the relevance of the Indian market in the OnePlus grown story and announce The Next Big Step."

No one knows exactly what the big reveal is, but everyone assumes it will be a brand new handset everyone will love. Some say it will be OnePlus X, others claim it will be OnePlus Mini. Even the features are a bit blurry.

It is possible that the upcoming device will be a compact version of the current flagship OnePlus 2, a 5.5-inch phablet with a full-HD (1080x1920 pixel) resolution. OnePlus 2 is currently in demand, and is even facing a short supply problem.

The new phone is said to sport a mid-size but vivid 5.0-inch full HD display. Packed with competent multi-tasking and multi-app features, the device will run on the Android based Oxygen OS backed by an octa-core MediaTek Helio X10. Its 2GB RAM and 32GB internal memory will allow it to conveniently run and store a good number of apps. The 3100 mAh battery will allow the phone to last longer than a day on full usage.

For the camera, the rear is expected to be 13MP dual-lens while the front is said to be a 5MP snapper.

The mid-level phone is reported to cost $250, a reasonable price for its features and specifications. The phone is made for people who don't like phablets but want to have advanced and efficient phones.

Meanwhile, on the same day as the event, OnePlus will hold another global phenomenon. The rare OnePlus 2 will be open for sale for one hour in four different time zones. Previously, the sale of the phone had been invitational.

The schedule of the online sale will be 12-1 pm  HKT for Asia, 12-1 pm  CEST for Europe, and 12-1 pm PDT for North America.

"For our fans in India, simply visit the OnePlus 2 page on Amazon.in from 12-1 pm IST on October 12 and add it to your cart," wrote OnePlus on its website.

Buyers may purchase two phones per order, but there is no limit to the number of orders.

While not as popular as Samsung and Apple's phones, OnePlus offers a more-than-decent mix of basic and advanced smartphone features and specifications at a good price.
