Microsoft's most high-priced Surface Book is currently out of stock after four days since it was up for preorder. Online users are wondering whether it's because of a strong demand, limited components or an effective marketing strategy

The company just introduced its new line of Surface Books, which the tech firm describes without a hint of restraint as "the fastest laptop on any planet." The most premium laptop in the Surface line is definitely a strong beast to behold, but did Microsoft hit a brick wall when it couldn't offer it anymore?

To start off, the most expensive and unavailable Surface Book model sports an Intel Core i7, a 512 GB SSD and 16 GB of RAM, and the powerful laptop is priced at $2,699. When it became out of stock, people didn't know why or how it happened because the timeframe between the moment it was available for preorder and lack of availability was too short.

The other Surface Book models are still up for preorder, though, all the way to the penultimate version. The entry-level model has an Intel Core i5, a 128 GB SSD and 8 GB of RAM under its hood, and it costs $1,499. On the other hand, the second-to-the-last model is packed with an Intel Core i7, a 256 GB SSD and 8 GB of RAM, and it comes with the price tag of $2,099.

Beta News writer Randall C. Kennedy suggests that it's a brilliant marketing ploy, saying that Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella "is truly the genius we all suspected him to be."

"An 'out of stock' message is a powerful marketing tool for vendors seeking to shift perceptions by creating the sense that a product is aspirational," Kennedy continues to say on his post.

It's possible that Microsoft is using a similar marketing strategy that Apple is known to use to market its products. However, whether or not it's a scheme, the top Surface Book model will be out of stock until further notice.
