In what may seem like strange news, actor Tom Hiddleston recently admitted that he hasn't spoken to Marvel about Loki possibly returning to any future Marvel films.

Although Loki appeared in Thor, The Avengers and Thor: The Dark World, Hiddleston doesn't seem to believe that Marvel has any future plans for the character, at least as far as he knows.

"You know, I genuinely do not know," said Hiddleston to Screen Rant. "I wish there was something I could tell you. I haven't spoken to anyone at Marvel for about two years. That universe is expanding at such a rate, so ... your guess is as good as mine."

Interestingly enough, though, according to JoBlo, Marvel has already confirmed Hiddleston for Thor 3: Ragnarok, along with Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk. However, it seems that, if this is the case, Hiddleston isn't aware of it.

Hiddleston quickly rose to stardom after his portrayal of Loki in the first Thor film, making him a favorite with fans of Marvel's cinematic universe. He became so popular as Loki that the character appeared in two more Marvel movies, although he was absent from Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon, though, had a good explanation for a scene with Loki in that film that eventually got edited out.

"We did shoot something," said Whedon to MTV. "And it didn't play. The movie has so much. It's so filled. We didn't want it to feel overstuffed. I really wanted to have Loki in it, but I understood the decision that there were now too many voices in the chorus."

However, Loki fans will probably still find themselves surprised at the news that the character may not appear in the third Thor film, considering his popularity. In the Thor movies, Loki is Thor's brother, a constant thorn in Thor's side, so if he isn't in that film, fans would feel his absence.

However, in Hiddleston's interview, he did have an idea of what Loki has been up to since viewers last saw him onscreen, as the leader of Asgard.

"That's all I know that he's been doing," said Hiddleston. "I mean, I'm interested to see what's happened in the time between. I like to believe that actually he runs Asgard pretty well. The trains run on time and he keeps the streets clean."

Hiddleston also discussed his role in Guillermo del Toro's Crimson Peak and explained that he loved playing bad guys.
