Cupertino slipped out an unexpected update this morning to its perennial favorite iMac line, bringing the beloved desktop super hi-res Retina Displays.

The 21.5-inch version of the all-in-one is going 4K, with 9.4 million 4096 x 2304 resolution, while its bigger sibling will be outfitted with an even more impressive 5K—a 14.7 million pixel screen that Apple has deemed "world's highest resolution all-in-one display." Or, as it handily points out, seven times the pixels of a standard HD display.

The iMacs are getting souped-up internals to match the stunning new screens, with upgraded processors and new AMD graphics delivering "up to 3.7 teraflops of compute power," by the company's count. For those who really want to deck out their machines, the computers can be configured with up to 3 TB of storage.

The standard peripherals are getting a refresh as well, with a more ergonomic version of the wireless Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad. The trio also includes built-in rechargeable batteries, a nice touch for iMac owners sick of dumping spent batteries in the landfill.

Naturally, the new computers ship with El Capitan, the latest version of Mac OS X. Users willing to shell out the standard price of $1,099 for the 21-inch and $1,700 for the 27-inch will also get the latest iWork suite, iMovie and GarageBand.

The new iMacs are available now through Apple's site
