Fans of survival horror parkour adventure game Dying Light don't have much longer to wait for the next chapter of its story. Techland announced that "The Following," the much-anticipated DLC that adds an entire new area to the game's setting, arrives in early 2016.

Although Techland released some key details about the expansion earlier this year, it did not give out a release date. However, the company has now nailed down its launch window for the downloadble content.

"Today we finally know that Dying Light: The Following will launch within the first three months of 2016," said Dying Light producer Tymon Smektala in a press release. "This gives us enough time to put in all the content and surprises we have planned for you guys. So keep your eyes peeled for some sneak peeks into what we have in the works for you all. And we promise to share the exact day of release as soon as we get a final decision."

The expansion opens an entirely new area in the game for Kyle Crane, the game's main protagonist. Techland claims this new region is larger than all the maps of the base Dying Light title combined.

"The Following" takes Crane to the outback, where he's not just up against zombies, but also a fanatical group associated with the zombie outbreak. Gameplay brings Crane close to the locals in the region so that he can infiltrate the group and discover its secrets. However, Crane gets a new piece of equipment to accomplish his goals (which also, of course, still includes keeping the zombies from getting him): a customizable dirt buggy. This vehicle will let Crane run down zombies or whizz past the undead while firing bullets at them.

Dying Light season pass holders get this new massive piece of DLC for free, but for those who aren't season pass holders, the price is $14.99.

Dying Light initially released in February this year. In the game, players take on the role of Crane, who must survive the beginning of the zombie apocalypse. However, Crane quickly gets bitten by a zombie and must continue to take a drug that keeps him from becoming completely undead. Crane uses both survival and parkour skills, with gameplay changing between night and day (night gameplay is tougher, but garners more experience points).

"The Following" expansion releases in the first quarter of 2016.
