As the March 2016 release of Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, DC Entertainment is putting the spotlight on another superhero — or superheroine — whose name isn't featured in the movie's title. In light of Wonder Woman's first live action debut on the silver screen (unless you count appearances in the 1991 Filipino film Alias Batman & Robin or the fan-made short Wonder Woman) and her own adapted movie set to debut in 2017, DC has announced that they plan to release a brand new comic series centered around the ever-popular Amazonian that, among other things, unfolds her origin story under Digital First.

Written by Renae De Liz (The Last Unicorn, Womanthology) and with art by her husband, Ray Dillon (Gatekeeper, Game of Thrones), The Legend of Wonder Woman will follow Diana Prince (aka the titular superheroine) and life on the island of Themyscira, before she leaves it for "Man's World," or rather, the DC version of our own.

Here is DC's official synopsis:

"In the beginning there was only chaos. But Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons, sees a better future — and eventually her daughter is destined to bring that new world to life. But before her ultimate destiny is revealed, Diana of Themyscira must learn the important lessons of an Amazonian childhood!"

The Legend of Wonder Woman will have a planned nine-issue run, and is set to be released sometime in January 2016.
