Princess Leia Organa's Force sensitivity was only mentioned in passing when Darth Vader told Luke Skywalker of his plans to bring her over to the Dark Side instead of him. It was also shown that she could sense Luke. But thus far, only Luke has been taking full advantage of his Force powers by becoming a Jedi while Leia is relegated to using a blaster.

However, being Luke's twin sister, it only makes sense that she has just as much of the Force in her as the rest of her lineage. Finally, in this third installment of "Star Wars: Shattered Empire," we finally get to see more of that Force being awakened inside of Leia as well.

Comic book spoilers ahead!

"Shattered Empire" takes place just shortly after the events of "Return of the Jedi" from the Star Wars Original Trilogy. Although Luke and Leia know they are twins and Darth Vader, formerly Anakin Skywalker, was their biological father, it is not known if they knew their mother was the former Queen Padmé Amidala of a little planet called Naboo.

And yet, we see Leia traveling to that distant outlying planet that was once home to the ambitious Senator Palpatine, who would rise up to be elected chancellor and then name himself Emperor of the Galactic Republic.

Accompanied by a "Shattered Empire" character named Shara Bey, Leia goes to Naboo to help the current Queen fly some yellow Naboo fighters and destroy some satellites that were created by Palpatine to cause hurricanes all over the planet after his death.

While walking onto the familiar-looking Theed hangar bay which we saw in the "The Phantom Menace," Leia freezes by the doorway, her Force powers sensing the very spot where another powerful Force-user once stood so many years ago: Darth Maul.

Of course, the Sith apprentice is no more, but the very fact that Leia could sense that he was there is a big indication that her Force powers are becoming more accessible to her.

Darth Maul's image is only fleeting, as Leia and the others have a planet to save. But what an impact!

Those who read "Princess Leia #2" might also recall that upon seeing a stained glass portrait of Amidala – her mother, whom she never met or even knew about – Leia also had a Force vision of the woman turning to look at her. Another great way to link the Original Trilogy with the prequels in this emerging new canon for the Star Wars Universe.

Given that Shattered Empire occurs decades before the upcoming "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," could it be possible that Leia's powers could be more developed in the new trilogy as well?
