Motorola has accidentally spilled the beans and confirmed the existence of the Droid MAXX 2, ahead of the company's press event later this month. The Lenovo-owned company is anticipated to take the wraps off some smartphones in the Droid family at its upcoming event in New York on Oct. 27.

It is expected that Motorola will introduce the Droid Turbo 2 and the Droid MAXX 2 at the event.

Now, less than two weeks before the device's formal announcement, Motorola has committed a tech faux pas while publishing its Moto Email app on the Google Play Store on Oct. 15 - it posted screenshots of the new app listing where one of the images is accompanied by the signature "Sent from my DROID MAXX 2."

The company was quick to realize its mistake and has now removed the image. However, Droid Life managed to snap up the slipup from Motorola as can be seen in the screenshot below.

This is not the first slipup pertaining to the smartphone. Earlier in October, Google accidentally confirmed that Droid MAXX 2 was set to be a Verizon-branded variant of the Moto X Play smartphone.

Rumors are rife that the impending Droid MAXX 2 will sport a 5.5-inch full HD screen with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (401ppi). Under the hood, the Motorola smartphone headed for Verizon will house a quad-core Snapdragon 614 processor, which clocks in at 1.7GHz. The phablet will also boast 2GB of RAM and 32GB of on-board storage, which is expandable to 128GB via a microSD card.

The Moto X Play in a new avatar will also have a 21MP primary camera and a 5MP selfie camera.

Interestingly, the Moto Email app is reportedly not installable on any current smartphones, including those made by Motorola. This fact makes one wonder if the app was also posted ahead of its designated schedule and was meant for release after the arrival of the Droid MAXX 2.
