A new report claims Samsung is planning to unveil new flagship Galaxy S7 smartphones in January. The handsets will reportedly feature 3D Touch-like displays, three different processors and USB Type C port.

As Apple is basking in the glow of the success of its new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, rival smartphone manufacturers are already releasing or planning to ship devices to better compete with the new iPhones.

Google has started to ship the LG Nexus 5X, which has been positioned to go head to head with the iPhone 6s, and its Huawei-built Nexus 6P phablet has the iPhone 6s Plus in its sights, but has reportedly been delayed in some markets due to supply constraints.

Samsung also recently launched two new Galaxy Note 5 phablets that don't offer any new features or specs but match Apple's iPhone 6s Plus in the color department, with new Pink Gold and Silver Titanium color options, which greatly resemble the new iPhone's color palette.

According to a new report, Samsung is already planning to launch its next-generation Galaxy S7 and presumably, Galaxy S7 Edge, in Jan. 2016. The company could also add a third model to the lineup in the form of its first foldable smartphone, codenamed "Project Valley," to show off the company's commitment to innovation.

The report claims that Samsung has already finalized the design of the Galaxy S7 variants in September and will soon begin production of the smartphones in order to meet their rumored Jan. 2016 launch date.

Samsung is expected to add its own interpretation of Apple's iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus 3D Touch features. Recent reports have suggested that Samsung will use new Exynos 7880 and Exynos 7650 to power the handsets. The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are also expected to drop the micro USB ports used on all of its smartphones, phablets and tablets and adopt USB Type C ports.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are also believed to be among the first smartphones to ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.
