On Once Upon A Time, the journey of Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) into darkness not only seems inevitable, but also seems that it may happen quickly. However, that doesn't mean that she's completely unreachable.

In a sneak peek of Sunday night's episode, "Dreamcatcher," Henry (Jared Gilmore), Emma's son, approaches his mother and asks her to help someone in need: the girl from Camelot that he has a crush on, Violet (Olivia Steele Falconer).

In the clip, Henry has a conversation with Violet and she tells him that she's devastated because her horse is now missing, somewhere in Storybrooke. Henry, being the show's ultimate problem solver and mission-taker, decides to help out Violet by asking his mother, now the Dark One, to find the horse.

Of course, Emma attempts to explain to Henry that, although she's still his mother, helping people isn't exactly what she does now.

Viewers already know that Emma seems to struggle with the darkness inside of her: why else would she want to rejoin Excalibur to the Dark One dagger to kill the light inside of her? That light, apparently, is giving her some grief, so it's only a matter of time before one of the Storybrooke residents realizes that and figures out how use this knowledge to save Emma.

Of course, first, the gang has to figure out what happened in Camelot, something viewers learn with flashbacks in each episode. So far, fans know that King Arthur is not the hero the legends make him out to be and that the situation with him, Guinevere and Lancelot is much more complicated than the stories everyone knows.

There is also the case of the missing Merlin, who isn't missing but actually trapped inside a tree. Who will free him from his prison? Is he the key to fixing Emma? If so, that means that the Storybrooke folks haven't freed him yet.

However, in an interview, Elliot Knight, who portrays Merlin on the series, assured us that Merlin plays an important part this season in Emma's story. In the first episode of the new season, Merlin appears to a young Emma in a movie theater and tells her not to pull the sword out of the stone. As viewers now know, modern day Dark One Emma has given herself the mission of doing just that.

"It's not just a random moment in time," said Knight to Tech Times. "They didn't show it for no reason. That scene may be even the heart of the events that are about to unfold. So, it's of crucial importance for fans of the show. And it might not be as obvious as they think."

Once Upon A Time airs on ABC on Sundays.
