Indiegogo will be renaming and rebranding Indiegogo Life, its effort to raise money for good causes. The name of the new charity will be "Generosity by Indiegogo."

Generosity will launch later today and will not charge fees, will allow users to not have deadlines and will use the Indiegogo backend.

According to Indiegogo, a campaign takes only a few minutes to launch and will do so with four rather high profile initiatives. One of these, called Positive Planet, is aimed at helping Syrian refugees begin their new lives. Another, called Project Scientist, is dedicated to funding STEM education for girls. The third project is called Khan Academy Lite and offers learning networks for those who don't have Internet access. The last project to kick off alongside the Generosity launch is for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, which will support those with blood cancer.

While Indiegogo originally launched Indiegogo Life around 10 months ago, Kickstarter hasn't done the same thing and even had to break its own rules to support a campaign for Syrian refugees. Kickstarter's rules say that projects cannot be to raise money for charity.

So, why rebrand the service? It seems as though there was some confusion about the platform being offered alongside the standard Indiegogo website, especially when it comes to the rules being different on Indiegogo Life.

Campaigns that were already live on Indiegogo Life have been moved over to Generosity by Indiegogo.

Indiegogo itself was launched in 2008 and was one of the first crowdfunding websites on the Internet. It has, however, arguably been overtaken by Kickstarter when it comes to popularity, however, by focusing on charities, which is something that Kickstarter does not do, the service will be able to regain some of its market share and set itself apart from the likes of Kickstarter.
