LG Electronics, the South Korea-based producer of commercial and consumer electronics and appliances, has created a Big Brother for its Android-operated G Pad series of tablets.

The new tablet is the G Pad 10.1, indicating its 10.1-inch screen size. It joins the G Pad 7.0, 8.0 and 8.3 in the line. Therefore, it is now the largest tablet in the series.

The G Pad 10.1 is now being shipped for worldwide markets. Price-wise it is a midmarket model, between entry-level tablets and premium tablets such as Apple's iPad. Its screen size is just a smidge larger than the iPad's 9.7 inches.

The G Pad 10.1 incorporates features that are ported from LG's smartphone line, such as Knock Code and Qpair.

Knock Code is a security system for locking and unlocking the tablet. The user can do both by tapping on the screen in a user-selected rhythm and sequence. In other words, don't knock it if you don't use the right sequence and timing of taps. The tablet will store up to four unique knock patterns to support multiple users.

Qpair connects the G Pad 10.1 with your Android smartphone, enabling the transfer and reception of text messages and calls from the smartphone to the tablet.

The G Pad 10.1 also includes LG's Smart Keyboard feature, which features predictive typing and the ability to learn the user's typing habits and word choices for a more streamlined and productive typing experience.

Other carryover features from LG smartphones include Touch & Shoot, whereby the user taps anywhere on the display to simultaneously focus and take the picture, and Gesture Shot, a selfie function in which the user makes a fist with the free hand within the frame. The 5-megapixel camara initiates a three-second countdown and then takes the photo.

The G Pad 10.1 motors through life powered by the same 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor that also motivates the other G Pad tablets. It is shipped with 16 GB of on-board memory and 1 GB of RAM. There are five shell colors -- black, white, red, orange and blue. There also is a microSD expansion slot.

The G Pad 10.1's 1280 x 800 HD IPS touch screen display can be split into two screens. The user can open two different apps on the tablet and drag and drop content from one window to the other.

One stated strength of the new tablet is its 8000 mAh battery, although LG does not yet provide battery stamina information.
