For more than a decade, the soothing voice of Bob Ross taught many aspiring painters how to paint happy little pine trees inspired by the landscape outside his home in Alaska. The gentle nature of the former Air Force sergeant is still fondly remembered by those who watched him almost effortlessly tap his brush onto his blank canvas as he created a stunning landscape in just 30 minutes.

For the first time, the entire first season of Bob Ross' “Joy of Painting” show is available to watch for free online on the official Bob Ross YouTube channel. The show, which originally aired on PBS from 1983 to 1994, features Bob Ross rocking 80's spectacles and an Afro while creating masterpieces of titanium white and cadmium blue.

Although Bob Ross died from lymphoma in 1995, his legacy lives on through his “Joy of Painting” series as well as a line of art supplies which bear a caricature of his face. Pick up a paintbrush and bring out your innate artist; this is the message Ross encouraged everyone from the very first episode.

“I think there’s an artist hid in the bottom of every single one of us. You know, we have avoided painting for so long because I think all of our lives we’ve been told that you have to go to school half your life, maybe even have to be blessed by Michelangelo at birth to ever be able to paint a picture. And here we ant to show that that’s not true — that you can paint a picture right along with us,” he said in the premiere episode.
