The blue microbeads found in Crest toothpaste are made of a common plastic known as polyethylene, a non-biodegradable material that won't dissolve in the mouth. When stuck in the gum line, dentists said these attract bacteria leading to more serious dental problems such as gingivitis and periodontal disease.
