Samsung's anticipated release of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE seems to be on hold, as reports suggest a rescheduling of the launch or possibly even its cancellation.

Instead, the tech giant is redirecting its focus towards refining the Fold 6 and Flip 6 devices, leveraging insights gained during the development of the Fold 6 FE.

What could be the reason behind this move?

Competition from Chinese Brands

Samsung is expected to drop a cheaper foldable under the Fan Edition line: Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE. However, Chinese foldables are here to thwart its release. How?

The decision to reconsider the Fold 6 FE launch stems from intensified competition in the foldable phone market, particularly from Chinese manufacturers like Oppo, Xiaomi, and Huawei, Korean newspaper The Elec reports.

Samsung aimed to offer a thinner and more affordable alternative but faced challenges in meeting these objectives while maintaining competitiveness.

Challenges in Differentiation

Samsung's approach to creating a budget-friendly Fold FE involved compromises on certain features, such as excluding the S Pen stylus to reduce production costs and achieve a sleeker design. However, these efforts fell short of effectively distinguishing the Fold 6 FE from its Chinese counterparts, which boasted thinner profiles and comparable durability.

Fold 6 FE Struggles to Meet Expectations

While Samsung enjoys notable success with its foldable phones in China, the Fold 6 FE failed to meet expectations in terms of standing out in the fiercely competitive market. Consequently, the company is reassessing its launch plans for the Fold 6 FE, with the possibility of delaying or abandoning the release altogether. Additionally, plans for a more affordable iteration of the Flip line, potentially in the form of a Z Flip 7 FE, are also subject to review, according to Phone Arena.

In light of mounting competition and challenges in product differentiation, Samsung is recalibrating its strategy for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE. While the company remains committed to innovation and expanding its foldable phone lineup, it recognizes the need for a more strategic approach to meet the evolving demands of consumers-and compete with Chinese foldable handsets at a higher level.

While the upcoming Samsung foldable is yet to be released, the Galaxy S24 series boasted a new record in its turf, shattering pre-sale records in the Korean market.

Earlier this year, the smartphone maker revealed that the flagship lineup would debut with AI-powered features to attract more potential buyers in and out of the country.

In other news, Tech Times reported that iPhone users were warned of the new 'spray and pray' iMessage scam.

As Evri warns, there are three red flags to spot for this delivery scam. These are poor language used in the fake iMessage, unusual links that contain malicious content, and the lack of personal greetings to customers.

Remember that these three signs are mostly present in scam messages. If in doubt, call the authorities to help you out.
