It seems that Huawei, currently deemed as the third biggest smartphone maker (next to Apple and Samsung) in terms of profits, wishes to ramp up its phone business even further to take on the two bigger tech giants. Huawei is hiring the former creative director of Apple, Abigail Brody, as it is planning to build a user experience design studio in the U.S.

The Chinese smartphone maker chose Brody as its chief user experience (UX) designer to ensure its mobile plans are on the right track.

Prior to the release of Huawei's official statement in Mandarin over Weibo, rumors of the hire have already cropped up over a slew of Chinese tech websites.

The statement indicates Brody will oversee the interface design of the company's products.

"Based on our plan, Huawei is going to set up a user experience design studio in the U.S., tracking and leading pioneering design concepts in the industry, working with China's domestic design teams to provide the best user experience of Huawei's ultimate products," says (translated) Huawei. 

Brody worked with the Cupertino-based giant for nearly 10 years (up to January 2011) as a hiring manager as well as creative director, based on her LinkedIn profile. Interestingly, Brody was part of the very team responsible for the first iPhone and iCloud.

The profile notes Brody's research and development work defined the way Apple's apps look and feel.

Furthermore, she assisted in defining both OS X and iOS pro applications.

Recently, she served as vice president of global design at eBay and PayPal.

With Brody onboard, Huawei fans should expect more powerful and cohesive interfaces in the company's smartphones, tablets and smartwatches.

In the meantime, it is interesting to point out that Huawei already knocked Xiaomi, usually billed China's Apple, out of the top spot as the biggest smartphone maker in China during the third quarter, according to research firm Canalys.

The company is currently in the spotlight for making the recently unveiled Nexus 6P, Google's newest, hottest phablet receiving positive reviews from consumers.
