While many multiplayer games get special Halloween themed updates, leave it to the developers at Rockstar Games to knock theirs out of the park.

In the new Grand Theft Auto Online Halloween Surprise update for Grand Theft Auto V, players will find new vehicles, new masks, bobbleheads and even a brand new game mode have been added to help players celebrate the scariest holiday of the year.

Players will find special Halloween themed items in their inventory when logging in, and better yet, players get to keep all of their items even after Halloween has come and gone.

The new vehicles, like the Lurcher Hearse, are appropriately spooky, as are the new horror movie themed masks players can now purchase. Rockstar has also added 30 new styles of face paint to help get you in the Halloween spirit.

But the real meat of the update is a brand new adversary mode for eight players inspired by slasher horror films. Appropriately titled Slasher, the mode has one player become a shotgun wielding maniac, while the other seven must flee for their lives and are equipped only with a flashlight. If the hunted can survive for three minutes, they'll get a chance to turn the tables and become the hunter instead.

The introduction of the new mode is cool to see, especially with the recent buzz surrounding the official Friday the 13th game currently seeking funding on Kickstarter. Like Slasher mode, the game will be an asymmetrical multiplayer title in which one player becomes the super-powered Jason and must hunt down the other players, who take on the role of helpless teenagers.

The Halloween Surprise update will be live until Nov. 16, so enjoy the new game mode while you can.
