The people behind the must-have photography app VSCO Cam is rolling out a new standalone app for GIF files. With DSCO, which is pronounced as "disco," the startup Visual Supply Co. intends to bring high-quality moving pictures to the table.

The VSCO Cam app has always been popular, so with the addition of DSCO in the mix, the pair stands to generate a more solid reputation. With GIF files in the picture, the apps open new opportunities for fun and creativity to users everywhere.

"DSCO broadens how our community can express themselves. We saw VSCO being used in unprecedented ways, and we wanted to ignite that playfulness and originality," Joel Flory, VSCO CEO and co-founder, says in a news release.

DSCO is simple and straightforward to use. Just open the app, tap and hold the on-screen button, and then a multicolored bar will frame the sequence. Users can use a wide range of presets and purchased VSCO filters to add a touch of personal flavor, and a quick tap on the screen can even create a focal point.

DSCO records 2.5-second GIF files in portrait mode, and once a short clip has been captured, the app will generate a preview and give users the option to either publish it to VSCO or delete it. When a GIF is published, a copy of it will be sent straight to the Photos Library.

The VSCO app can also play DSCO GIF files, not to mention that the animated pictures can also be shared on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Tumblr. A swipe down from the top of the screen will open up the App Settings where DSCO can be personalized.

"GIFs are an incredible form of creativity. They can display a wide range of human emotion and perspectives," Greg Lutze, VSCO co-founder, says.

What makes the VSCO platform so appealing, aside from its features and presets, is its extensive photography community.

DSCO is available on the App Store for free with limited-edition presets, and this is the first of many apps the firm plans on releasing. As of right now, it's still unclear when it will arrive on Android devices.
