The iPhone 6 is one of Apple's next big hardware release. However, if a new report holds true, then folks who are expecting to get their hands on the rumored 5.5-inch iPhone 6 this year, may have to wait it out until 2015.

According to the new report, the 5.5-inch version of the iPhone 6 could be delayed into 2015 due to production issues. If true, it would be a huge blow to the Cupertino tech company as it needs something new on the market to compete with Samsung, and to keep profits soaring.

Still, despite the possible delay of the 5.5-inch iPhone 6, the version with a 4.7-inch display is still expected to launch this year, probably sometime in September.

"Apple is already facing production bottlenecks on the 4.7-inch model related to the new technology for the device's in-cell touch panel, as well as color unevenness on the redesigned "iPhone 6" metal casing. Those problems are said to be even worse with the larger 5.5-inch model," said the report quoting KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

We understand that both iPhone 6 devices will feature in-cell touch panel technology that is built directly into the display. This should allow for thinner display construction when compared to the iPhone 5s.

Furthermore, both devices are also expected to come with a scratch resistance Sapphire display that is four times stronger than Gorilla Glass 3. The report also expects the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 to pass the drop test, as it prepares for a possible delay and launch for 2015.

While the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 is allegedly scheduled for a launch in September, the 5.5-inch version, if it should launch in 2014, could come sometime in November.

What about the iWatch?

Well, the report claims the device is facing major mass production problems, and if this continues, then Apple might be forced to launch it in December of this year. In addition, fans should keep an eye out for a possible launch of a new Apple TV set-top box device.

What we think

If Apple is indeed working on two iPhone 6 devices, we'd like to think the company would want to launch them both on the same day. For this very reason, we expect Apple to push hard just to make this a possibility. Chances are, the 5.5-inch version would be limited in quantity compared to the 4.6-inch iPhone 6.
