Apart from the exclusive merchandise and exhibitions, one of the highlights of the D23 Expo in Japan was the announcement of Disney Animal Kingdom's newest attraction.

A family-friendly indoor boat ride, called Na'vi River Journey will open with the launch of Pandora - The World of AVATAR in 2017. The attraction may be two years away, but that doesn't mean we can't revel in the beauty of the bioluminescent rainforest.

Following the 2013 announcement from Disney Parks Bob Chapek, Pandora - The World of AVATAR began construction in early 2014. The concept, of course, is based on the fictional exoplanetary moon, Pandora, featured in the "Avatar" series by James Cameron. Pandora - The World of AVATAR will include various attractions as well as 3D holograms, audio animators. The area also comes with food, beverage and retail outlets.

The Na'vi River Journey begins with guests setting out in canoes, ready to cruise down a "sacred river" padded with glowing plants and extraordinary creatures. The attraction culminates with an encounter with a Na'vi shaman, who infuses guests with positive energy through music.

Also confirmed during this year's D23 Expo was AVATAR Flight of Passage. This E-ticket simulator attraction allows guests to learn the art of flying, with the help of a mountain Banshee.

"It felt so real, so lifelike. There's never been anything like it," an exclusive report shared.

A response to the Warner Bros. "Harry Potter" attraction, Pandora - The World of AVATAR is Animal Kingdom's largest expansion project since its 1998 opening.

"The addition of 'Avatar' land is clearly Disney's answer to Universal's pair-up with Warner Bros. to build the wildly successful Wizarding World of Harry Potter park and Diagon Alley expansion inside Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios in Orlando," said the report.

Disney's Animal Kingdom is one of four theme parks at Walt Disney World Resort.
