Sony Mobile has started pushing out a revamped camera app for its Xperia Z5 lineup of smartphones. Thanks to the updated camera app, the Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact and the Xperia Z5 Premium benefit from several new features.

On Monday, Nov. 16, as promised, Sony rolled out the Camera 2.0.0 update, which brings a new UI along with novel features such as the capability to swap between camera modes with a simple swipe. The Japanese company previewed the interface at the IFA 2015.

"We're excited to announce that our new camera update – first previewed back at IFA – rolls out from today** for Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact and Xperia Z5 Premium. It brings a minimalist interface and new features designed to make capturing the best shots and accessing Xperia Camera apps even easier," notes Sony Mobile in a blog post.

So what can one expect the Xperia Z5 to do post the update you ask? For starters, users will be able to seamlessly switch from camera modes – Manual, Superior Auto, Xperia Camera apps or Video – with a simple swipe on the screen instead of accessing a menu like before. Settings are also easier to access and customize with simple touches and swipes using on-screen sliders.

Previously, the toggles which aid in adjusting the camera mode settings individually have been shifted from the top of the screen. They are now located on both sides of the capture button at the bottom, which makes single-handed use easier. Thanks to this alteration, one is able to make adjustments such as white balance easily.

Material Design transitions have also been included along with animations, which give the camera app a sleeker look.

For those hoping the slow motion capture and 4K video would be included as options in the video option instead of having their separate icons will be disappointed. Sony also missed out on bundling the Panorama app as a scene option into the Manual mode. The Camera v2.0.0 update also does not bring manual focus and manual shutter speed options.

The APK can be downloaded now but is only compatible with the Xperia Z5 series and Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z4.
