Apparently, you don't necessarily need a TV running Android TV to enjoy the Google Play suite of streaming services.

LG has announced that many of its recent smart TVs, which are running operating systems like webOS and NetCast, will soon be able to access Google Play, allowing users to stream music, purchase movies and so on.

"The smart TV market is growing rapidly and with that comes a tremendous demand for fresher, higher-quality content," said In-Kyu Lee, head of the TV and monitor division at LG, in a statement. "... Our close partnership with Google will go a long way toward fulfilling the high expectations of LG Smart TV owners."

The move could be very useful for those that use Android on their smartphone and computer and who might want to expand this experience to their TV. Users will be able to both stream and purchase content through the store. TV shows will only be available in Australia, Canada, the UK, and the U.S. at launch, however, movies will be available in a massive 104 countries.

Smart TVs have been growing in popularity quite a bit over the last year or so, especially with the refresh of the Apple TV and the launch of Google's equivalent, the Nexus Player. While the announcement by LG might not be a deal-maker, it will certainly be good for those who own the TVs or who are looking to buy an LG TV. The update will be pushed to LG TVs later this month.
