Season two of Gotham is in full swing, but that doesn't mean that the series still has thrown all its cards into the ring yet. Although Gotham executive producer John Stephens recently revealed that the show would feature the Order of St. Dumas on the series, it seems that the Order has now officially arrived in Gotham City on the television show.

This week's episode of Gotham showed a group of monks arriving in the city, led by a man previously shown to have ties to Theo Galavan (James Frain).

That group of monks comprise the Order of St. Dumas, or so Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) believes. Gordon tells Captain Barnes (Michael Chiklis) about the order in a new sneak peek of next week's episode and warns the captain that the Gotham Police Department needs to do something about them and their ritual killings.

Of course, at first, Barnes and Gordon butt heads, as they do often, but eventually Barnes hears Gordon out and tells him to investigate the newly arrived Order.

In DC Comics the Order of St. Dumas began as a faction of the Knights Templar, but formed its own splinter group after a disagreement. The Order of St. Dumas follows their own set of rules and follow the teachings of a man named Dumas. Although the Order calls its founder a saint, Ra's Al Ghul once described him as a vicious and insane man.

In Gotham's second season, viewers learned that Galavan has a vendetta against Gotham City, specifically with Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz). This is because one of Bruce's ancestors betrayed a member of Galavan's family, which at the time, had the surname of Dumas. The betrayal resulted in the Dumas family being shamed in the city, so they changed their name to Galavan.

Eventually, the Order of St. Dumas itself splintered into separate groups. One of those groups bestowed the title Azrael on a champion and assassin that became the group's strong arm. This character also received confirmation of eventually appearing on the Gotham television series.

"We will be going deeper into the Order of St. Dumas over the next run of episodes, and it will continue to play an evolving role for the rest of the season," said Stephens to ComicBook.com. "And yes, we wouldn't be telling an Order of St. Dumas story without also intending to tell an Azrael story. Just keep watching."

Gotham airs Mondays on Fox.
