There's both good and bad news for Kickstarter backers who are waiting for their Prynt portable printer case.

The company announced that it has started to ship orders to some customers, with those who made the early bird purchase already receiving their product. However, the company also said it's taking longer for them to get the blue and pink cases right, so there's a possibility they won't make it out before Christmas.

Prynt is an instant camera case for iPhone and Android that allows users to print a photo in seconds. The user simply needs to plug their smartphone into the case, take a new photo or choose an existing one and hit print.

The case has its own battery, so you don't have to worry about draining your devices, doesn't need Wi-Fi to work and doesn't require Bluetooth pairing.

Prynt is designed to fit various models of phones, including the iPhone 5/5S, iPhone 6, Galaxy S4 and S5, so consumers don't have to buy a new case when they upgrade their devices. They will only need to order a new dock adapter to keep printing.

Speaking of printing, the portable printer doesn't use ink, and instead features a special paper with the ink embedded inside. The case holds up to 10 sheets of paper, with refills offered via the accompanying app.

While this is an impressive case in its own right, it also features an augmented reality aspect where the user can point their phone at the Prynt photo in the app to see a six-second video that was recorded.

While you might be sold on this case thanks it its augmented reality photos, the app is still waiting for approval in app stores.

According to Prynt's Kickstarter page, the case was expected to ship for early birds back in August, with the classic batch shipping in October. The company previously revealed that this would be changed to December "due to another slip in our overall timeline."

However, now that the cases have officially started shipping, the company will send each customer an email with their tracking information as soon is their order has been processed. It's important to note that since Prynt is manufactured in China, the product will also have to make it through customs before getting to consumers' doorsteps.

Even still, an iPhone case that can print out physical copies of your selfies as well as providing augmented reality videos sounds like it's well worth the wait.

Prynt retails for $149 and includes a 10-sheet pack of paper. Additional paper retails for $25 for 50 sheets. Prynt is available to preorder on the company's website, with orders by Dec. 17 for the white and black options expected to arrive in the U.S. by Dec. 25.
