It's the biggest time of the year for PC gamers: the Steam Winter Sale! Every year, Steam discounts hundreds upon hundreds of games for weeks at a time.

This year, the sale will go until Jan. 4, with new deals going up all the time.

Today, there are 143 games on sale, with Valve promising thousands more to come in the weeks ahead. The initial offerings include deep discounts on CD Projekt Red's entire Witcher franchise, Bethesda's Elder Scrolls series, Sid Meier's Civilization games and much, much more.

The sale is a little different from ones we've seen before. It doesn't look there is any kind of community voting system, though players can still earn trading cards for the purpose of crafting a Steam Holiday Sale 2016 Badge by exploring Valve's curated game's queue each day. Previous sales have introduced community mini-games, but those are nowhere to be found as well. Looks like Valve is going back to the basics.

Though there are no mini-games or voting going on, Valve did release a fun little comic gamers may want to check out. The first issue is titled Gingerbread Jake in "North Pole Noir," with new pages in the comic being added daily. You can read the comic by clicking here, or by clicking on the image in the upper right corner of the sale page.

Steam is currently experience a few outages as thousands of gamers flood the service, but expect everything to calm down soon. Don't worry, with two weeks of deals, there will be more than enough time for you to spend all your money.
