Oculus officially announced that preordering for the highly anticipated Oculus Rift will begin at 11 a.m. EST on Jan. 6, despite no verified shipping or release date.

In a press statement posted on its blog, Oculus promised to "share everything [consumers] will need to know" concerning its virtual reality headset, and provided a countdown clock for future customers willing to watch the dwindling minutes tick by ... for the preorder date, that is.

But how will any questions concerning Oculus Rift be answered? While there is no indication that more information will be posted on the blog or breaking news presented at CES despite the suspense surrounding the VR product, Oculus founder Palmer Luckey will hold a Reddit AMA later that same day at 6 p.m. PST (9 p.m. EST).

While the excitement over Oculus VR at CES is evident, it is by no means the only VR gear maker that hopes to beat the hype: Samsung and HTC are also set to present at the international electronics conference, as well as other newcomers like Voxelus, who will present a new type of VR currency.

In an effort to beef up Oculus Rift's entertainment value, those who preorder will also receive free VR game copies of CCP's EVE: Valkyrie and Playful's Lucky's Tale with purchase.

As of now, there is no set price for Oculus Rift, though we'll see if that changes on Wednesday.
