A new video was just released by LG to promote its mini-sized LG G3 Beat. The breakout star of the video appears at the end and it's an unannounced stylus-packing phablet.

There's a new star in the Android smartphone world and it has its sights on Samsung. LG has been stepping up its game, when it comes to the smartphones the company has been launching, in terms of features and specs. The company just announced that it sold a record 14.5 million smartphones last quarter, which is 20 percent more than LG sold last year during the same quarter.

LG showed off its innovation when it launched its LG G Flex in January. The smartphone is the first handset to ship in the U.S. with a flexible OLED HD display in addition to a rear case that has a self-healing feature that can magically repair itself from small scratches. The company's current flagship LG G3 was attributed to helping the company shatter records in terms of smartphones sold last quarter. The G3 is the first smartphone to ship in the U.S. with a Quad HD display that has a jaw dropping resolution of 2560 x 1440.

Prior to the release of the LG G3, it was widely reported that Samsung was on a mission to beat LG to the punch by releasing its Galaxy F / S5 Prime with the same 2560 x 1440 QHD display. The company was able to bring to market an upgraded Galaxy S5 with a QHD display but the device still remains an exclusive to South Korea and is not expected to make its way to the U.S.

We just reported that Samsung has sent out invites for a Sept. 3 event in Berlin where the company will unveil its next-generation Galaxy Note 4 phablet. In what appears to be a tactic by LG to take attention away from Samsung, LG released a video on the same day for its mini-sized LG G3 Beat, which can be seen below. The breakout star in the video is not the LG G3 Beat; it's an unannounced device that makes an appearance at the end of the video.

The device is officially called the LG G3 Stylus and appears to be a little larger than the 5.5-inch LG G3. The phablet's claim to fame lies in its name; it's packing a stylus just like Samsung's Galaxy Note series. There is no other information provided in terms of what we can expect spec-wise or an estimated release date.

The LG G3 Stylus will not only compete with Samsung's Galaxy Note 4, it will also take on Apple's first phablet, the 5.5-inch iPhone 6, which is expected to officially be unveiled at an event on Sept. 9.

With Samsung, Apple, and LG preparing to release new phablets in the coming weeks, consumers will benefit by having a wide range of choices from the top three smartphone makers.
