Xiaomi unveiled the Redmi Note 3 handset last November, finally delivering its first smartphone sporting a full-metal body and a fingerprint sensor for a more premium touch.

Building on that success, the OEM now delivered another pleasant surprise to its fan base: an upgraded variant of the Redmi Note 3.

One of the ways in which the Redmi Note 3 Pro differs from its predecessor is that it holsters a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 with a 64-bit 1.8GHz hexa-core CPU, instead of the MediaTek Helio X10 Octa-core 2.0 GHz Cortex-A53.

The graphics card is also a new addition to Xiaomi's handset. The Redmi Note 3 Pro sports an Adreno 510 GPU, whereas the default Redmi Note 3 has a PowerVR G6200 onboard.

Other notable upgrades on the Redmi Note 3 Pro are the integrated X8 LTE, allowing VoLTE support. This allows the handset to play nice with all Chinese mobile carriers. The smartphone also has 4G+ network support.

The Beijing-based OEM tweaked the camera combo on the newest Redmi Note 3 Pro, replacing the 13-megapixel main camera of the original model with a more powerful 16-megapixel snapper. It should be noted that the new camera is a significant step up from its predecessor, as it sports phase detection autofocus and f/2.0 aperture.

Some specs remain unchanged, such as the 5.5-inch 1080p display. Similar to the Mi 5 handset, the Redmi Note 3 has two models available. One features 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage space, whereas the other holds 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory.

All Redmi Note 3 devices come with a hefty 4,050 mAh battery.

So far, we know that the price point for the default, 16 GB smartphone, is RMB 999 ($151). No information currently exists about the pricing of the 32 GB variant.

For the Indian mobile users who have their eyes on the Redmi Note 3 Pro, we bring good news. The OEM launched the Redmi Note 3 Explorer challenge in the country, allowing 100 fans of the brand to win the smartphone, provided they complete the missions.

Since December, Xiaomi has held the first place in the Chinese market when calculated by market-share. When combining the recent release of the Redmi 3 and the announced Pro version of the Redmi Note 3 handset, the OEM's supremacy will probably be reinforced in its homeland.
