The set-up for Far Cry Primal is pretty simple and to the point: you are a hunter-gatherer from prehistoric times who must avenge your massacred tribe with an array of savage weaponry and ferocious animals. It builds upon many of the recurring elements of recent Far Cry titles, such as hunting and crafting, but puts players in a much more savage world.

Ubisoft has just released a new trailer for their upcoming first person spearer, and it shines a little more light on who exactly will be killing whom and why. Like we've heard before, players will be in control of a hunter named Takkar. Thanks to this trailer, we now know the face and name of his most hated enemy: Ull.

Ull doesn't look especially friendly. He's the one responsible for so much bloodshed, and so Takkar will have to rebuild his tribe (and tame a few sabre-tooth tigers) in order to defeat the madman and avenge his fallen brethren. In the trailer below you'll see plenty of spear attacks, an owl Takker can use to scout enemy locations and a bowl of what might be the most unappetizing soup ever featured in a video game.

Ubisoft says the game is unmistakeably Far Cry, but with more emphasis placed on crafting, survival and melee combat.

"At the beginning of the game, you're naked, so you have to craft everything, you have to gather resources," Jean-Cristophe Guyot, Far Cry Primal's creative director, says. "Night is super-dangerous, because that's when the predators come out, so you have to have fire to protect yourself and repel the animals. If you go up in the north, it's very cold, so you'll also need the fire there to keep yourself warm. If you explore caves, fire is very useful."

Far Cry Primal arrives on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on February 23. Pre-ordering the game gives players access to three bonus Mammoth missions.
