Will The Terminator be back? The answer to that is riddled with uncertainty, most especially now that Paramount has dropped the "Terminator 2" from its 2017 roster.

While this may upset Terminator fans, the move isn't exactly surprising. Paramount does plot out release dates well in advance BUT as there was no progress on the second movie since "Genisys" came out last summer, it was only a matter of time before the sequel was shelved.

Guess the readjustments didn't go so well.

Back in October 2015, producer Dana Goldberg said that production (if any at all will be happening) was not going to start at the beginning of 2016. This may have already been a sign of things to come but as no confirmations were made at the time, it was too soon to tell if the "Terminator" franchise was going to end with "Genisys."

To be fair, "Terminator: Genisys" did really well in the box office, raking in $440 million worldwide. Not bad considering it was done on a $150-million budget. However, the movie grossed no more than $90 million domestically. "Genisys" starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator, of course, while Sarah Connor was played by Emilia Clarke from "Game of Thrones."

Goldberg said Paramount was essentially satisfied with how the movie performed but wished for better numbers in the U.S. Looks like everyone's taking a step back and proceeding with caution regarding anything "Terminator."

There is also no word on what will happen to the planned TV series. "Terminator" was originally planned to continue through movie sequels and a TV series.

The "Genisys" sequel was originally scheduled to come out May 19, 2017 but its slot has now been taken over by "Baywatch," is a movie reboot of the 1990s TV series of the same name. It will star Zac Efron, Dwayne Johnson, Kelly Rohrback and Alexandra Daddario. Ilfenesh Hadera is the most recent addition to a cast that will be receiving direction from Seth Gordon.
