Who knew you could achieve home security — not to mention, peace of mind — with a lightbulb?

ComfyLight's smart light bulb, having launched its crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter on Friday, contains an embedded motion detector, which flashes upon sensing a home break-in.

It then, via an accompanying smartphone app, sends a push notification alert to home owners, so even if they're out of their house, they'll know something is wrong.

According to the minds behind the startup company ComfyLight, the smart light bulb achieves this function by learning your normal routines and turning on and off according to them — even when you're not in your home.

So, let's say the home owner leaves his or her home at 8 a.m. daily for work and returns and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Well, if there's a break-in within the interim period, the ComfyLight would realize something's wrong because the home owner usually isn't home at that time, thus sending the alert.

The ComfyLight can also be scheduled to flip on or off and dimmed from the app, adding a level of convenience to its users.

Are you seeing the light on the prospect of a bulb being used as a home security device?

If so, you can head to the company's crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter and contribute.
