"Superman" is a popular character, given a spin of their own by a handful of actors across generations. The face of Clark Kent for "Smallville" for 10 years, Tom Welling was one of them. With that many years being associated with the superhero, he'd make a great choice to don the suit and take to the skies as the Man of Steel.

Will we see him in "Supergirl" then?

According to Buzzfeed's Jarett Wieselman, it may be unlikely.

Not offering the role to Welling, however, may have something to do with the direction the show is going.

Talking to Wieselman, Welling shared that being on "Smallville" was a major accomplishment. Not only was the show on the air for 10 years but the actor was also in each and every one of the over 200 episodes they produced. To carry a TV show all on your own is a big feat, especially when you're relatively new to the industry like Welling at the time.

However, all that also took its toll on the actor.

For starters, he had to stay in Vancouver for 10 years. That means being away from friends and family who were back in the U.S. Then there's also the fact that he was on set from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m.

"I was basically cut off from everyone. I just put my head in a hole and I basically blocked everybody and everything out," said Welling.

Clark Kent grew up along the way in "Smallville" and as the actor portraying the character, Welling also had some growing up of his own to do.

When the show came to a close in 2011, it gave the actor the breathing room he needed to recalibrate and figure out what he really wanted to do. After Clark Kent, Welling became a Secret Service agent for "Parkland" in 2013 and a football player for "Draft Day" in 2014. His next movie, "The Choice," a Nicholas Sparks adaptation, is due Feb. 5, 2016.

If CBS picks up "Section 13," an hour-long drama about a CIA black ops officer who became a private contractor and then joined a covert organization to carry out dangerous, high-stakes assignments after a personal tragedy, it will be the next time that we'll be seeing Welling on TV. He's on board as creator, developer, executive producer and star of the series.
