Things will get bloody and brutal this summer, at least in a new Conan-based game coming from Funcom.

The company announced Conan Exiles, a brand-new open world multiplayer survival game set in the world of Conan the Barbarian. That announcement Jan. 28 came with a teaser trailer, too, that teases the new title in all its violent glory.

"I walk in a land of desperation," says the trailer's voiceover. "A wasteland of the exiled and outcast. Where the broken strive to build among the ruins. Where the weak are crushed, while the strong survive. And they call me a barbarian."

If that doesn't set the proper tone for a Conan-based game, nothing will.

"You are an exile, one of thousands cast out to fend for themselves in a barbaric wasteland swept by terrible sandstorms and besieged on every side by enemies," writes Funcom on the Conan Exiles website. "Here you must fight to survive, build and dominate.

Funcom also teased a few details about gameplay: players must survive in a harsh environment while also learning to grow their own crops and hunt for their own food. They must also collect resources to build tools and weapons, as well as create personal shelters. Players can choose to wander the wasteland alone or join other players to build villages that they can protect from outside invasions.

"When strong enough, march forth into battle and wage war against your enemies as you fight to dominate the exiled lands," writes Funcom. "Sacrifice enemy players on the altars of the gods and shift the balance of power your way. Unleash your fury in savage, fast-paced combat and execute bloody and bone-crushing attacks that will see heads rolling and limbs flying."

On description alone, the game sounds worthy of the often-brutal world of Conan. This is the second Conan-related MMO from Funcom, with the first being Age of Conan, which is still available to play.

Conan Exiles will launch first on the PC this summer through an early access program, with a full launch on PC and consoles arriving later this year. The game will support both public and private servers.
