Uber has given its app’s logo a “new look and feel.” It appears, however, that people on Twitter are already calling it “ugly” and “confusing.”

The company has introduced its new logo alongside the most recent update for its Uber app, which now sits at version 2.118.8.

The app’s new logo, however, has now created quite a buzz on Twitter, with lots of people expressing their disapproval regarding the makeover. Some also expressed confusion as to what the square icon is or if the "U" was changed to a "C."

Uber has announced this visual change to its app in a blog post detailing how the company has come up with the newest app icon.

The firm highlights “the bit,” or the central small square in the icon, which it calls as the “heart” of its logo. It says that even though the bit will stay the same on its website and app, the shape and the background surrounding will vary, reflecting a certain region of the world or a design theme.

"You'll see that both rider and driver icons have the bit at the center, and then the local colors and patterns in the background," says Uber boss Travis Kalanick. "This is a framework that will also make it easy to develop different icons for new products over time."

It's worth mentioning that Kalanick was personally involved in designing the new logo. He points out that the old logo was “distant and cold,” which then led them to the thought of giving the icon a substantial facelift by using a variety of colors in various cities Uber serves throughout the world.

“This will mean adding hundreds more color palettes and patterns overtime,” says the chief executive.
