Verizon Wireless has revealed that its prepaid plans will offer subscribers more mobile data, with zero additional cost.

Although it's the nation's largest carrier by subscriber count, Verizon has noteworthy competitors and it has to keep up. Its latest move to offer more data for prepaid customers comes shortly after major rivals T-Mobile and AT&T buffed their Internet services packages.

Registered Verizon subscribers who have a $45/month plan are now able to use 2 GB of lightning fast 4G data, twice as much as the 1 GB from the initial plan. Should you have a $60 per month subscription, you get a bonus of 2 GB of extra data, effectively giving you 5 GB of mobile data to toy around with.

It should be noted that the aforementioned plans include unlimited voice calls and texts.

If you reach the end of the data plan and you really have to be online, Verizon has a solution for you: buy extra data. For $5, you receive 500 MB, $10 get you 1 GB and $20 pours an extra 3 GB of data into your handset.

To purchase the extra bundles, users must manually top up their standard plans first.

The carrier wants its subscribers to program automatic payments and for that it offers an additional 1 GB of data per month for those who do. This means that if you schedule your $45 per month plan, Verizon offers you 3 GB of data, while for the $60 plan it will offer 6 GB.

Verizon also announced that its MORE Everything plans will get upgraded. The carrier will bring options for 12 GB, 14 GB and 16 GB data allowances, targeted at users who gulp the data like it were candy.

When compared with offers from AT&T and T-Mobile, Verizon's new plans are on par.

However, T-Mobile's prepaid (and postpaid) plans get the edge in terms of affordability and extra features. T-Mobile recently raised the bar and gave its customers more mobile data. For example, the $50 per month plan which used to offer 3 GB of data now brings 5 GB, while the subscribers who chose the $60 prepaid option now get 10 GB of data.

T-Mobile offers zero-cost roaming in Mexico and Canada, as well as free video and music streaming.

The fact that the three major carriers expanded their data plans for no additional charge heralds a shiny era for mobile streaming and app using.
