The unlocked Gold Nexus 6P is up for grab at a discount of $50 from Best Buy.

Google announced the Huawei Nexus 6P along with the LG Nexus 5X at a press event in September 2015. At launch, the handset was available in Graphite, Aluminium and Frost color options. However, Google announced a Matte Gold color option for the phone at CES 2016.

Best Buy is currently offering a discount of $50 on the Gold color Nexus 6P, which brings down the price of the 32 GB model from $499 to $449 and the 64 GB variant from $549 to $499. Customers who want to purchase other colors of the Nexus 6P will not get any discount.

The Gold Nexus 6P being offered by BestBuy is compatible with most of the major carriers in the U.S. including AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint and US Cellular.

The Nexus 6P was one of the first smartphones to come running on the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system. Nearly five months have passed since the release of the Nexus 6P and even now only a limited number of devices run on the new Android OS.

Customers of the Gold Nexus 6P will have a unique device color and at the same time get an opportunity to use the new Android OS. Moreover, Nexus device owners are among the first to get software and security updates.

Apart from the color, other specifications of the Nexus 6P remain the same. The mobile device has a 5.7-inch AMOLED display with 1,440 x 2,560 pixels resolution. The handset comes running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor clocked at 2 GHz and 3 GB of RAM.

The Nexus 6P has a 12.3-megapixel rear-facing camera and an 8-megapixel selfie camera. A 3,450 mAh battery powers the device. The smartphone has a USB Type C charger that offers fast charging.

"The USB Type-C charger is reversible, which means no more guessing which way is up. And it's fast - get up to 7 hours of use after only 10 minutes of charging," says Google.

The Nexus 6P includes a fingerprint sensor at the back, which allows for easy unlocking of the phone.

"Your Nexus is quicker and more secure with a fingerprint sensor. Placed on the back of your device to complement the way that you naturally hold it, Nexus Imprint will turn on your screen with one touch, unlock your apps quickly and easily. And, by incorporating measurements each time that you use it, Nexus Imprint gets smarter with every touch," says Google.

It may be the best time for customers who have been waiting to buy a new Nexus 6P as Best Buy is also giving a $25 gift card with the purchase of the Gold Nexus 6P.
