Disney Interactive announced a new update to the mobile strategy game Star Wars: Commander that lets gamers go on new night missions.

Putting a twist on the Heroic Defense Challenge mode that was introduced last summer, the new "Night Raids" feature adds 24-hour day and night cycles to each planet. This means that now players can participate in two Heroic Defense challenges each day.

" 'Night Raids' is unlike anything we've seen in the combat strategy genre," Star Wars: Commander executive producer Andrew Fazekas said in a press release on Feb. 9. "It will give fans an entirely new way of playing Star Wars: Commander and developing base defense strategies."

The new feature syncs with the player's geographic location to be able to determine the time of day, so the raids will take place when it is nighttime in real life.

Night Raids includes new visual updates for each environment, and when night falls, players will be able to deploy Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia together along with starships in the same mission.

However, players will need to first build the new Scout Tower on their base to use Night Raids. The player will then receive a notification when a raid is approaching their base. They will then have 30 minutes to accept the challenge to play the mission to claim rewards like supply crates if they are victorious.

The new feature strengthens the game's defense aspect of gameplay by allowing the player to actively protect their bases at night, as well as encouraging the player to think more strategically about how to lay out their bases.

The update doesn't feature new characters or units.

Disney Interactive previously released an update back in December that brought the world of Takodana from The Force Awakens to the mobile game, along with two new mercenary units.

Star Wars: Commander allows a player to choose to fight for the Rebellion or Empire, and then build a base, train units, complete story missions and defend against the enemy. The mobile game is available to download for free with in-app purchases for iOS and Android.
