New details regarding the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 have leaked. The phablet has been codenamed "Vasta" and will boast a 5.99-inch 1280 x 720 Super AMOLED display, 12-megapixel camera, and more.

Samsung will officially unveil its next-generation Galaxy note 4 phablet at an Unpacked event scheduled for Sept. 3. The smartphone is expected to be packed with high-end features like a 5.7-inch Quad HD display, 4 GB of RAM, and quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor.

The Galaxy Note 4 will face a new contender in the phablet arena, as Apple is widely believed to launch its first jumbo-sized smartphone with the introduction of the 5.5-inch iPhone 6. Samsung isn't about to let its biggest rival enter the phablet category it created without putting up a major fight,

While the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will be the company's flagship phablet, it's also planning a new midrange and more affordable device that will cater to users who want a minisized tablet display without all of the bells and whistles of the Note 4.

We first heard reports of the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 back in March and the SM-G750A, which is AT&T's variant passed through the FCC in July. The first image of the Galaxy Mega 2 leaked recently and showed off its 5.99-inch display and Galaxy S5-inspired design.

SamMobile just received the Galaxy Mega 2's first official firmware and cracked it open to try and gain some more insight on what Samsung has planned for its other upcoming phablet. The site's source confirmed that the Galaxy Mega 2 is codenamed "Vasta" and its model number is listed as SM-G750F, which it claims is the European variant.

The Samsung Galaxy Mega will reportedly be released in two variants; one will feature a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor and the other will use a Samsung Exynos 4415 chip. The phablet will use a 5.99-inch 1280 x 720 HD Super AMOLED display and pack in 2 GB of RAM to keep things running smoothly. The smartphone will ship with 8 GB of internal storage and a microSD expansion slot.

The Galaxy Mega 2 will run Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box and use an updated version of Samsung's Magazine UX. It will also have some new software features that will make it easier to use the device with one hand. The site notes an "Easy Side Panel" feature that enables on-screen navigation buttons placed on the left or right side of the display.

There's no word on when we can expect to see the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 make its official debut, but once we hear something, we'll pass it on.
