LG will take the wraps off of its next-gen 2016 flagship smartphone on Feb. 21. A new report appears to confirm the smartphone will gain the secondary ticker display currently found on its very popular LG V10 smartphone.

Samsung and LG have both scheduled press events on Feb. 21, where both companies will unveil their 2016 flagship smartphones. Samsung will launch the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, which we recently reported are rumored to ship with a Gear VR virtual reality headset when preordering the devices. The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are expected to feature a very similar design to that of their predecessors, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, but the Galaxy S7 Edge will reportedly feature a larger 5.5-inch dual curved edge display, compared with the 5.1-inch screen of the Galaxy S7.

LG will also hold its press event to kick off Mobile World Congress 2016 on Feb. 21, and the company is widely expected to announce the LG G5. The company recently teased the G5 would feature an "Always on Display," and now, a reliable source has confirmed the smartphone will gain the LG V10's secondary ticker display, which we reported back in December.

Evan Blass, who has a solid track record of reporting unannounced devices and features, took to Twitter and tweeted: "Finally saw the G5; secondary screen confirmed."

The secondary ticker display, which made its debut on the LG V10, allows notifications, weather information, shortcuts and more to appear on a second display located above the smartphone's main screen. It's unclear if LG will expand on the size of the secondary display and features currently supported on the V10.

LG appears to be putting a strong focus on the G5's display, which will be quad-HD-based and come in between 5.3 and 5.6 inches and will include an "Always on Display" that will show users time, date, weather and notifications without having to wake the device. The secondary ticker display will add a feature not offered by any of LG's rivals.

We'll keep you posted on any additional LG G5 details as they become available.
