If you're one of several iPhone or iPad users whose device suddenly got bricked by the Error 53 message, there's now a way for you to restore your gadget to working condition.

After determining the possible cause of the error, Apple has released an update to iOS 9.2.1 that is designed to fix the issue. Users can download the program through iTunes using their Macs or PCs.

How to restore your Apple device using the iOS 9.2.1 update

Step 1: Make sure to download the latest available version of iTunes.

Step 2: Connect your iPhone or iPad to a Mac or PC using a USB cable. Wait for the iTunes program to launch and detect your iOS device.

Step 3: When the option to either Restore or Update becomes available on iTunes, choose Update. This will allow iTunes to reinstall the iOS program on your device and restore it back to normal without deleting any of your saved files.

Some devices may not allow you to proceed beyond the Apple logo screen. If this happens, try to force restart your gadget. This can be done by pressing and holding down both the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo reappears.

When the Restore or Update options come up, select Restore.

Step 4: Once the restoration process completes, the Hello screen on your device will appear. You will then have to follow the step-by-step guide shown on your gadget's screen to have it properly set up.

If you've backed up your iOS device before, you can choose to use the same settings from your backup.

You can also opt to have your Touch ID set up later.

Important Notes

1. Choosing to restore your device will wipe all of the data that are saved on it.

2. If the restoration of the iOS device fails to finish and an error message aside from Error 53 appears onscreen, find out how you can address it by checking out Apple's error messages list.

3. If the Touch ID feature on your iOS device hasn't been working properly before the Error 53 message appeared, it still won't function even if you have your gadget updated or restored.

You have to contact Apple's support team to find out about the available service options for the Touch ID feature.
