New information regarding the specs and features of the iPad Air 2 and next-gen iPad mini has leaked. Apple will reportedly double the RAM to 2 GB in one model.

The upcoming iPhone 6 has been dominating tech news headlines for weeks and it's safe to assume the frenzy will only increase leading up to its rumored Sept. 9 unveiling. We got our best look at what the device will actually look like based on fully assembled 4.7-inch dummy units now appearing online, just weeks ahead of its expected release. The company is also preparing to release updates to its iPad tablet lineup with the iPad Air 2, next-generation iPad mini with Retina display, and possible rumored 12.9-inch iPad Pro. Apple is believed to be using updated Touch ID hardware in its upcoming iPads for the first time and will uniformly integrate the feature across its smartphone and tablet lineup.

Unlike Apple's iPad lineup last year which saw the release of its flagship 9.7-inch iPad with the same exact specs as the iPad mini with Retina display, this year's model will reportedly get a bump up in the tablet's RAM department, doubling from 1 GB on the current model to 2 GB on the iPad Air 2. The next generation iPad mini is expected to retain its overall design and HD display and also include the same faster A8 processor that will debut on the iPhone 6, followed by the new iPads.

The extra amount of RAM will reportedly support a future unannounced iOS feature that will allow two apps to run and be displayed at the same time while using the tablet in landscape mode. This option was rumored to play an important part in iOS 8 and some reports claim Apple may include this as a major feature on the iPad Air 2. Some reports also claim the feature may also be released for the first-generation iPad Air, next iPad mini with Retina display, and iPhone 6, all Apple A8-based processor devices.

The simultaneous display of two apps is a feature Samsung and Microsoft have both publicly highlighted when comparing their tablets to the iPad's single-screen/app focused interface. iPad users would certainly appreciate this option. A concept video was created to show off how Apple could implement this feature in iOS 8 as seen below.
