The first-ever trailer for this summer's Ghostbusters reboot has finally dropped - and it pays homage to the original franchise with a look and feel all its own.

The trailer, which runs a little over 2 minutes and 30 seconds, sets up the scene by reminding us that 30 years ago, four scientists saved the city of New York - but now a new team is here to "answer the call." We then shoot to Erin Gilbert (Kristen Wiig) getting covered in plasmic ghost vomit. Yep: it feels Slimer home already.

From what can be garnered from watching the trailer, it looks like a streak of originality permeates the film, especially in the characters - and especially in Kate McKinnon's performance, which is somehow both quietly weird and outlandishly, delightfully her own, and includes a hilarious scene with trying on wigs.

Other highlights include the return of Slimer, some excellent proton pack action, a very haunted Times Square, the face Melissa McCarthy makes when she gets possessed by a ghoul (and the total Exorcist homage that happens afterward), and the introduction of  the Ghostbusters hearse, which Leslie Jones just happened to "borrow from her uncle." ("It's a Cadillac!" she responds.)

And the MVP moment: Jones literally slapping said ghost out of McCarthy. ("THE POWER OF PAIN COMPELS YOU!")

Here is the official synopsis of the film:

"Thirty years after the beloved original franchise took the world by storm, director Paul Feig brings his fresh take to the supernatural comedy, joined by some of the funniest actors working today - Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth.

With paranormal activity on the rise, a Columbia University academic, her ghost-chasing friend, the friend's business partner, and an MTA employee join forces to bust ghosts and save New York."

In addition to the trailer, we finally have the official movie site. You can check it out here.

Ghostbusters is set to be released in theaters nationwide on July 15.
