iRobot revolutionized the home vacuum-cleaner market eleven years ago after releasing its Roomba.

For its next-generation autonomous cleaning system, the Massachusetts-based company announced a slew of new upgrades and notable improvements, Tuesday, in a release.

Delivering up to 50 percent better dirt pick-up, the Roomba 800 series feature the new AeroForce Extractors. Part of iRobot's patent-pending AeroForce Performance Cleaning System, the extractors are maintenance free and provide superior performance over traditional bristle brushes. This means a vacuum five times more power than previous models, the ability to hold 60 percent more dirt, and a XLife battery delivering double the cleaning cycles over the device's life.

According to iRobot chairman and chief executive officer Colin Angle, the device is more of a reinvention than simple improvement.

"Bristle brushes have been around for a hundred years," said Angle. "With these new AeroForce Extractors, we've invented a completely different way to clean your floor. With the Roomba 800 Series and AeroForce technology, iRobot is disrupting the floor care category yet again."

Existing features such as a HEPA filter, automatic docking, and more get optimizations. More specifically, improvements to its Virtual Wall technology comes as the company purchased then up-and coming rival Evolution Robotics last year for $74 million. The company's Mint cleaning system was known to feature better navigational technology called NorthStar Navigation or "indoor GPS."

Offering three levels of automated vacuum cleaners, the Roomba 800 joined the 600 and 700 series. Last year, iRobot has sold eight million Roombas and is used in well over six million homes worldwide according to Daily Infographic. Senior vice president and general manager of iRobot's Home Robot business Christian Cerda sees the addition as adding more variety.

"With more than a decade of cleaning homes around the world, iRobot understands consumer needs and the wide range of challenges associated with robotic floor care," said Cerda.

Available now on its site, the Roomba 800 can be purchased for $699.99.
