Everything's getting smart these days, from windows to watches. Now, yet another smart umbrella is joining the mix, and it's called Oombrella.

The smart umbrella is fitted with a capsule that sports a combination of sensors — one for air pressure, one for humidity, one for temperature and one for light. This setup allows it to tell whether or not it's about to rain in the next 15 minutes, notifying the user via a Bluetooth-connected smartphone with the corresponding app.

What's more, it can record weather data while it's being used and hold a GoPro or any other compatible camera thanks to a screw at the top. The capsule also has an integrated buzzer and light so that users will know when there's an incoming call.

As for the traditional aspects of the umbrella, the ribs are made out of Kevlar, and according to the company, it's "really wind-resistant" with the capability of withstanding storms, hailstorms, snowstorms and perhaps any other kind of storm.

Going over the handle, it has a waterproof, ergonomic design that makes it easy to hold while ensuring that the components inside won't be damaged by rainwater. The canopy also contributes to the whole wind-resistant functionality, as it's made from the "finest shiny material," and lastly, it's UV-resistant. It's available in Shiny, Black and White Edition.

Even people who already have their preferred umbrellas can turn them into smart devices too, as the minds behind the Oombrella are also offering a standalone capsule that provides all the functionality listed above.

The weather service Wezzoo hatched the idea of this nifty device, starting a campaign on Kickstarter. At the time of this writing, it already has 238 backers and more than $20,000 worth of pledges with 31 days to go.

The Oombrella doesn't come cheap, though. The most affordable pledge is set at €29 (roughly $32) and that's only for the capsule. The price then goes from €59 (roughly $66) for an Oombrella up to a whopping €3,500 (roughly $3,940) for 50 pieces of the smart umbrella.
