Darkness enveloped the skies of Antananarivo, Madagascar on Thursday, August 28 as swarms of locusts invaded the city.

The seemingly endless number of locusts have overtaken the city, leaving locals feeling helpless. City officials have called on the United Nations for help to contain the infestation. But help can't come soon enough for the unfortunate population plagued by the invading bugs.

Food and Agriculture Organization representative Patrice Talla Takoukam is calling for aid in the amount of at least $15 million over the next three years to combat the locust infestation.

Antananarivo is Madagascar's capital city with an estimated population of 2.1 million.
