Huawei debuted its new flagship device at IFA 2014 this week, the Ascend Mate 7 smartphone, boasting a 6-inch display and enough power to be a serious contender in the market.

The Ascend Mate 7 is almost all display, with a larger screen-to-body ratio than almost any other flagship device on the market today. Not only that, but the device also includes a fingerprint scanner.

"Ascend Mate 7 is a global flagship model, enabled with a touch fingerprint sensor," said Bruce Li, product development team manager at Huawei. "We see fingerprint sensors as a key feature of smartphones for important use cases, such as mobile payments and data protection."

In fact, the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 is the first Android smartphone to feature the FPC1020 touch fingerprint sensor. This scanner, which is located on the back of the device, will require the user to simply touch it. This is different from scanners found on devices like the HTC One Max, which require the user to swipe rather than simply touch.

The Ascend Mate 7 also features a 2,560 x 1,600 pixel resolution display and a 13-megapixel camera on the back as well as an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. Not only that, but users will also make use of the noise-canceling headphones that are powered by the phone.

As mentioned before, the display for the device is huge, coming in at a whopping 83 percent screen-to-body ratio. This is much larger than any other device on the market. For example, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has a screen-to-body ratio of 80 percent and the Samsung Galaxy S5 only has a screen-to-body ratio of 69 percent. The iPhone 5S comes in at 62 percent.

Pricing and availability for the device were not revealed. However, those details should be released in the near future.

The Ascend Mate 7 is not the only device that Huawei revealed at IFA this year. The company also showed off the new Ascend G620S, which is a 4G LTE phone with a large display and a small price tag.

The device features Android 4.4 KitKat with Huawei's Emotion UI, as well as a large 5-inch display and a premium look. The Ascend G620S is powered by a 1.2-GHz processor, and features an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.

While those features aren't that spectacular at face value, for the price they are great. Huawei says that it expected the device to sell for around €150, or about $200, and it will go on sale later this year.
