Sticking to its official date, Samsung launched the latest entry-level smartphone, Galaxy J1, in Canada on April 7.

The veteran South-Korean phone maker will now have Bell among other Canadian carriers to sell this handset from April 13, whereas an off-contract purchase will cost you $150 which is available at Telus from April 9.

Like the Dubai launch in January, the Canada launch was equally quiet and fuss-free. With this latest budget handset, Samsung is looking to regain its footing among the entry-level smartphone users in India as well, especially the beginners.

The Samsung labeling is quite fancy given its frills-free specifications. The makers call this "visual showstopper" something that will make you "marvel at the new window design, which takes the display right to the edge for an incredible wide viewing experience! With true-to-life RGB color reproduction and superb contrast ratio, you'll be amazed how incredible text, still images, and moving video looks on this display!"

Coming to the specs, this budget-friendly phone runs on an Exynos 3475 quad-core processor, which is accompanied by a Mali-T720 GPU. The 4.5-inch Super AMOLED HD display throws up a resolution of 800 by 480 pixels and only 245 PPI. The 1 GB RAM ensures you get by the day with the mandatory Facebooking, Tweeting, emailing, and texting, and comes with 8 GB of internal memory that can be expanded to 128 GB via the memory card slot.

This means there's plenty of room for the videos and pictures taken by the 5-megapixel back camera that comes with LED flash, autofocus and a new feature that helps capture the moment before it slips away. The selfies and video chats are backed by the 2-megapixel front-facing camera.

While all other common features - Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi, and FM Radio - function perfectly well, the 2,050 mAh battery does not promise a quick charge and prolonged battery life.

You can get your device at Telus but will have to wait for its slated release at Bell on April 13.
